NHS West Sussex Health & wellbeing for life

Born and educated in Kent, Denise started her career at Reed International plc and later worked as Managing Director for London News Network Ltd and Financial Controller of Programme Production and Facilities for TVS Television. Denise is a trustee of the Rory Peck Trust and a governor at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication. 

She was previously Chair of NHS Medway, and a Non-Executive Director at the Met Office and at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

Amanda Fadero has more than 20 years of NHS management experience in both commissioner and provider organisations. 

After qualifying as a nurse, Amanda specialised in paediatrics and neonatology for ten years, before working in a variety of senior management posts at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. 

Most recently, she was Chief Executive of NHS Brighton and Hove.

Charles was Chair of NHS Hastings and Rother from February 2007 to May 2011.  Charles is also a member of the Board of the Surrey and Sussex Probation Trust. 

He retired as a Director of the Home Office in 2006. During his seven years at the Home Office, he was responsible for fire and emergency planning, establishing the Police Standards Unit and for corporate services. He has lived in East Sussex for over thirty years.

Charles is also the Non-Executive Director on the Board sub-committee for the Hastings and Rother emerging clinical commissioning group.

Jeremy works as an investment consultant and has held senior positions in a range of investment management firms. He has most recently been a non-executive director for NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald.

Jeremy is also the Non-Executive Director on the Board sub-committee for the Coastal West Sussex emerging clinical commissioning group.

Jeremy is married, has two children, and lives in Horsham.

A retired accountant, Peter joined the NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald board in 2007 and has chaired the PCT’s audit committee.

Peter is also the Non-Executive Director on the Board sub-committee for the High Weald emerging clinical commissioning group.

He is a former national managing partner of chartered accountants HLB Kidsons, and a former council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Peter, who lives in Etchingham, is also a member of the steering board of the National Weights and Measures Laboratory, Chairman of its audit committee, and a member of the Health Professions Council.

Rita joined NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald in 2006 and later became Acting Chair. Her wide-ranging experience with the NHS includes 12 years as a Community Health Council member, and 16 years in health regulation of nursing and midwifery, osteopathy and chiropractic.

Rita is also the Non-Executive Director on the Board sub-committee for the Eastbourne Coastal emerging clinical commissioning group.

Rita, who lives in Eastbourne, currently chairs the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board, she is a Trustee and Chair of the charity Action Against Medical Accidents and she is Deputy Chair of the Optical Consumer Complaints Service.

George is a qualified accountant and experienced management consultant who has had a successful career in industry and commerce.

He spent 15 years in senior management roles before becoming Chief Executive of a major life assurance group, and he still undertakes some business consultancy despite having retired.  He was a Non Executive Director of NHS Brighton and Hove.

George is also the Non-Executive Director on the Board sub-committee for the Lewes and the Havens emerging clinical commissioning group.

Denise worked in the public sector, mainly in education and children’s services, for almost 30 years. She is a former Director of Education for Brighton & Hove City Council and for East Sussex County Council, and she went on to become the first Director of Children’s Services for East Sussex.

More recently, Denise has been Interim Chair at NHS Brighton and Hove. She is also a local magistrate and a college governor.

Denise is also the Non-Executive Director on the Board sub-committee for the Brighton and Hove emerging clinical commissioning group.

Stephen worked until recently as Managing Director of Varian Medical Systems, the world-leading manufacturer of cancer treatment (radiotherapy) systems. He previously held senior financial positions with multinational companies in the high-technology sector.

Stephen is also the Non-Executive Director on the Board sub-committee for the North West Sussex emerging clinical commissioning groups.

Sue qualified as a Chartered Public Finance Accountant in 1990.

She was Finance Director for a Community, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Trust and at Surrey Ambulance Service where she became Acting Chief Executive. Sue has also worked as Turnaround Director for Ashford St Peters Hospitals Trust and NHS North Surrey and as Deputy Chief Executive at NHS East Elmbridge and Mid Surrey. She later joined NHS West Sussex as Director of Contracting and Performance, and was appointed Deputy Chief Executive in July 2007.

Julia leads the Quality agenda for NHS Sussex, which includes patient safety, patient experience and clinical effectiveness. A key part of the role is to ensure the services we commission are of a high standard. She also leads on infection prevention and control, and provides leadership across the local health economy to reduce healthcare-acquired infections.

Andrew is a GP in Yapton and Middleton, where he has been a partner since 1987. He came to General Practice after postgraduate training in surgery and obstetrics and gynaecology. His clinical interests include minor surgery and male health. Andrew provides clinical advice and leadership on a number of NHS Sussex work programmes.

Before joining NHS Sussex this year, Amanda was the Managing Director for NHS Croydon. She was previously acting Chief Executive of NHS Wandsworth having joined as Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Corporate Affairs in September 2009.

Amanda first joined the NHS with Oxfordshire Community Unit in 1991, before moving down to work in the NHS on the south east coast, which is where she worked until 2008/09. She has undertaken a wide variety of roles in planning, commissioning, providing and performance managing primary, community and secondary care, with Board level roles since 2005.

In the summer of 2008 Amanda took a planned break from the NHS and established a consultancy through which she provided support to a number of NHS organisations including NHS London.

Claire joined NHS Brighton and Hove in 2007 as Turnaround Director and later Director of Delivery.

She is now the Director of Delivery responsible for the QIPP (Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention) Plan. Claire previously worked at the South East Coast Strategic Health Authority as the Business Consultant for Sussex and as Programme Director for the Foundation Trust diagnostic programme. She has also been a PCT Director of Finance.

Michael joined the NHS in 1983.  He is a qualified accountant and also has a degree in Health Information Science for Health Services Management.

His NHS career has included being Director of Finance at two acute trusts as well as senior positions in commissioning organisations.  He was Director of Finance for NHS Brighton and Hove since it was formed in April 2002.

Frank has held a range of director roles in the acute and commissioning sectors, including leading on a number of major service reconfigurations such as the new hospital at Pembury. 

Originally with a finance background, he has spent most of his 20 years of NHS experience in operational and business development roles. Frank is now responsible for contracting, business intelligence and performance, procurements and shared business services as managing director for the Sussex Commissioning Support Unit.
