Public engagement and consultation

The NHS Act 2006 places a legal duty on all NHS organisations to involve and consult patients and the public in the planning of services, the development of proposals for change and decisions about how services operate.

The law states that NHS organisations must involve and consult patients and the public on:

  • the planning and provision of health services
  • the development and consideration of proposals for changes in the way those services are provided
  • decisions that affect the operation of health services.

Your opinion matters

NHS West Sussex believes that involving patients and the public in planning, development and decision-making is a core part of our business.

This means engaging with and consulting members of the community, not just when a major change is proposed, but on an ongoing basis.
