Accident and emergency (A&E) and 999 calls
Accident and emergency (A&E) departments provide immediate emergency care for people who show the symptoms of serious illness or are badly injured. A&E departments are open 24 hours every day.
Achievements and performance
Like many other organisations, NHS West Sussex is assessed on its performance in a variety of ways. These reports help us find out how well we are doing, and in which areas, and where we need to make improvements to services.

For most people, 30 minutes of moderate activity five times a week will maintain general health.

Drug services
If you have a drug problem, there is a lot of free support and help available across West Sussex. Services include telephone support, group sessions, supervised community detoxification, social support and onward referral to other specialist agencies.

NHS West Sussex would encourage everyone to walk, cycle or use public/community transport to access local health services where they are able to. These options benefit health and wellbeing and help the environment.
Waiting times

If your GP refers you for treatment, you have the right for any non-emergency treatment that you need to start within a maximum of 18 weeks or for the NHS to take all reasonable steps to offer you a range of alternatives if this is not possible. You also have the right to be seen by a specialist within a maximum of two weeks from GP referral for urgent referrals where cancer is suspected.
